Tell us a little bit about you and your journey to where you are now with your career and / creative path?
I began my fashion career at 16, I was booked on a modelling job for Katherine Hamnett Denim advertising campaign with Juergen Teller and Venetia Scott shot in Joshua Tree. I was very lucky, enjoyed much success and had a long career as a fashion model which allowed me to live in Paris and then New York, traveling the world working with incredibly talented photographers, art directors, and stylists. The creatives I worked with had a big influence on me and taught me a lot, which definitely honed my creative eye.
After moving to Bali while pregnant with my daughter, Grace, I built a beautiful home which featured in a coffee table book 'Island Style.' This sparked my interior design business, collaborating with architects, furniture designers, antique and textile collectors for clients in Bali, Mexico, Ibiza, Australia and the Caribbean. I moved to Mallorca (pre-pandemic) for 2 years, which is a magical island and has a really special place in mine and my family’s heart.
Then the pandemic brought me to Byron Bay to be with my daughter Grace, where I transitioned into Health & Wellness, studying different alternative healing modalities.
Recently, I've come full circle back to modelling and am represented by SILVERFOX MGMT. The fashion industry's shift towards age-inclusivity and diversity is inspiring and so positive to be a part of. The landscape is very different now to when I began my career in fashion as a teenager!
What do you love about being a woman today?
Being a woman today feels liberating.. I personally feel unrestricted by sex or age and have a lot more confidence and ease in who I am as a woman now, in what I wear and how I look. I love that we as women are being celebrated at every age and decade. The most beautiful women I know are in their 60s, 70s and 80s!
How would you describe your style and what influences what you wear?
My style is elegant bohemian with a rock and roll twist, influenced by 70s and 80s music and fashion. Rock & Roll icons like Stevie Nicks, Jim Morrison, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin on stage - those jackets!!) and Anita Pallenberg inspire me, along with designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Halston and Chloe. I also draw inspiration from French style, the French do it so well! French Vogue is always my go to for the latest in fashion, their fashion editorials are always so beautifully curated.
How would you like to express yourself through your choices with your personal style?
I express myself by adding something unexpected to my outfits. If I'm in a tailored trouser suit, I might wear trainers, then with jeans, I'll pair them with heels and maybe a vintage piece. I love using accessories and vintage items to add character to outfits. I'm more playful and confident with my style now, I would like to be more adventurous with colour the more trips I travel around the sun...
What practices inspire you to keep evolving, even through both changing and challenging times?
Fitness and exercise keep me positive and confident - Healthy body, Healthy mind! Pilates, HIIT, weight training, hiking, beach walking, I do a mix of everything and usually every day.
A big inspiration I draw from is my community here in Byron, there are so many amazing artists, designers and brands who are founded and based here across all industries – Health & Wellness, Skincare, Fashion, Interiors, Art & Design – collectively they fuel my creativity.
What is your favourite part of calling Byron Bay home?
Being immersed in the beautiful nature here. I have lived in a lot of wonderful places and Byron is definitely one of the most beautiful parts of this planet, we are so lucky to live here. The stunning beaches, waterfalls, and nature trails bring me a lot of joy and peace. A favourite pastime is a sunrise beach walk with our dog Rue, watching the migrating whales, always so wonderful to witness. The sense of community here is very nurturing, there are a lot of creative, alternative like-minded individuals who really come together to create a tight knit family environment.
What is next on the horizon for you?
Studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences
What is it about wearing Natasha's garments that resonates for you?
I always feel elegant, very feminine with an air of luxury when wearing Natasha pieces. The fabrics are luxurious and Natasha clothing always has a unique signature touch that makes them Natasha, Tash is a very talented and clever designer. I have been wearing Natasha clothing from when we first met 20+ years ago and still have some of those pieces, they are beautiful and timeless.
What would you love to wear but haven't found yet?
I would absolutely adore a Natasha jumpsuit preferably in silk or denim. My best beloved jumpsuits I owned were vintage which have been lost along the way over many moves. It is hard to find new designs in beautiful fabrics that are stylish, well-cut and functional so I would love to see a Natasha jumpsuit. Please put me top of the list for one Tash!
With thanks
Natasha xo
